The Wheel of the Year Series, Book 1 ~ Samhain, The Beginning of Winter

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Samhain {pronounced ‘SOW-in’} is an ancient religious festival (Sabbat), originating in Celtic traditions of prehistoric Ireland, that celebrates the Final Harvest, when Autumn becomes Winter. Samhain falls between the Autumnal Equinox and the Winter Solstice. It is one of the four cross-quarter festivals (Greater Sabbats/Fire Festivals) associated with agriculture, and was likely the Celtic New Year.
Commonly known as Halloween, Samhain is a time of both physical and spiritual death and rebirth: with the end of the growing season, the seeds of the harvest hibernate and incubate deep within the Earth, and Nature’s seemingly lifeless sleep in the cold, dark Winter has begun, thus beginning it’s next annual turn around the sun. Samhain is a time to feast on and preserve the last harvest of the year, a time to honor our Ancestors and deceased loved ones, and a time of personal transformation. Samhain is a time to Celebrate!"
"The Wheel of the Year is an educational series of Pagan books written for both children and adults for the purpose of explaining the cycle of how the passage of time in the calendar year is divided and celebrated. The Wheel of the Year Series begins with Samhain, commonly known as Halloween, because it is the time when the Earth completes it’s growing season, begins to hibernate and incubate, and begins it’s next annual cycle. The Series ends with Mabon, the Autumnal Equinox, completing the Wheel of the Year.
In each book of the coming series of eight, there is a description of the Sabbat (religious festival), when it is celebrated (in the Northern Hemisphere), why it is celebrated and where it came from, and what is done to honor that time in the cycle of our year. Also included in each book are common associations to the Sabbat (such as colors and symbols), an extended Sabbat description for adults, a short meditation, a description of The Wheel of the Year, and coloring pages! Each book ends with The Rule of Three."
