The Wheel of the Year Series, Book 2 ~ Yule, The Winter Solstice
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Yule {pronounced ‘yü⒠l’} (sounds like ‘you’ll’) is the Pagan celebration of the Winter Solstice, which is the middle of Winter, the shortest day and the longest night, and the time of year when the Sun is lowest in the sky. It is the time when white snow blankets the Earth and the cold winds blow. Yule is an ancient Norse festival that celebrates the return of light and longer days, the prospect of increased warmth ahead, and hope for the renewal of life in the coming Spring. The Yuletide Season has changed over time to include approximately two months of festivities around the world. Commonly known as the Christmas season, Yule is a time to Celebrate!"
"The Wheel of the Year is an educational series of eight Pagan books written for both children and adults for the purpose of explaining the cycle of how the passage of time in the calendar year is divided and celebrated. The Wheel of the Year Series begins with Samhain, commonly known as Halloween, because it is the time when the Earth completes its growing season, begins to hibernate and incubate, and begins its next annual cycle. The series ends with the Autumn Equinox (Mabon), completing the Wheel of the Year.
In each book of the series there is a description of the Sabbat (religious festival), when it is celebrated (in the Northern Hemisphere), why it is celebrated and where it came from, and what is done to honor that time in the cycle of our year. Also included in each book are common associations to the Sabbat (such as colors and symbols), an extended Sabbat description for adults, a short meditation, a description of The Wheel of the Year, recipes, crafts, and coloring pages! Each book ends with The Rule of Three. We look forward to journeying around the Wheel with you!"
Praise for The Wheel of the Year Series:
“With Unterseher and Koziara’s first book of the Wheel of the Year Series we now have at our fingertips the perfect resource for sharing with our children the meanings behind our American Pagan Sabbat traditions and symbols. Here is a useful tool for assembling those necessary ‘15-second elevator pitch’ explanations of who we are and what we stand for… Koziara’s rich watercolors sustain a tone of warmth, mystery, and introspection throughout the book…”
-Jim Jeske, Children’s Librarian, San Francisco Public Library
“Pagan spirituality as detailed in Kristol Unterseher’s outstanding Wheel of the Year series — accessible, peaceable, affirmative, earthbound, hateful toward no one — sounds just like what this world needs… A must-read for the curious and for the practitioner alike.”
